Bobcat/Skid Steer Training (CPCS A23)

Course introduction

BAM Construction Training’s CPCS A23 Bobcat / Skid Steer training course (3 day foundation) is designed to provide novice and intermediate operators with sufficient skid steer training which will enable them to competently and safely carry out the role as a skid steer operator and pass the CPCS theory/practical assessments.

We also offer a 2 day experienced worker course for candidates who do not require practical training.

Eligibility Criteria

Before attending this course, candidates must pass the CITB Health and Safety Test for Operatives (OPS) within the past 2 years. We can accommodate this test at our centre for a fee of £60+VAT.

Course Learning Outcomes

  • Describe the nature of the sector of industry and their role and responsibilities as a plant operator.
  • Name & explain the purpose of principal components, the basic construction, controls & terminology
  • Conform with manufacturer requirements and relevant regulations/legislation. Undertake all pre-use checks
  • Prepare for travel and manoeuvre in confined spaces with and without loads.
  • Configure & set for extraction & loading duties. Explain actions required for hazards.
  • Extract differing types of materials. Form stockpiles. Construct (temporary) ramps
  • Sort & place materials into transporting vehicles & hoppers. Backfill, spread & level ground.
  • Carry out shut down and securing procedures. Explain the procedures for transportation.

Activity Instructions

Complete all manufacturer’ pre-start and running checks and prepare the excavator for travel

With & without loads, travel up & down a slope and start / stop in both directions. Travel over rough terrain.

Reverse with a load in a straight line (15m) and pass through a restriction (max clearance under 800mm).

Prepare & set the skid steer for the relevant work.

Using materials from the bank, create an upward ramp (length: 1.5x length, width: 1.5x, incline: 18%)

Load materials into a vehicle (minimum 8x bucket full loads).

Clean and tidy the work area.

Park the skid steer and carry out shut-down and securing procedures
