Ride on roller training (CPCS A31)

Course introduction

Ride on Roller Training Course – BAM Construction Training’s CPCS A31 Ride on Roller training course (3 day foundation) is designed to provide novice and intermediate operators with sufficient ride on roller training which will enable them to competently and safely carry out the role as a roller operator and pass the CPCS theory/practical assessments.

We also offer a 2 day experienced worker course for candidates who do not require practical training, or a combined 4 day course for A31 Roller and A09 Forward Tipping Dumper which is priced at £1295+vat.

Eligibility

Candidates must have a valid health, safety and environment test for operatives (OPS) within the past 2 years (also referred to as the CSCS touch screen test). We can accommodate this at our centre for a fee of £60 +VAT.

Course Learning Outcomes

  • Describe the nature of the sector of industry and their role and responsibilities as a plant operator.
  • Name & explain the purpose of principal components, the basic construction, controls & terminology.
  • Conform with manufacturer requirements and relevant regulations/legislation. Undertake all pre-use checks.
  • Manoeuvre in confined spaces with and without loads. Travel over rough terrain & inclines.
  • Configure & set for compaction duties. Explain actions required for hazards.
  • Compact loose granular materials to specification. Compact in straight lines & around radii.
  • Compact supported and unsupported edges. Explain the principles & techniques of good compaction.
  • Carry out shut down and securing procedures. Explain the procedures for transportation.

Activity Instructions

Complete all manufacturer’ pre-start and running checks and prepare the excavator for travel

Drive up and down a gradient.

Drive on uneven ground.

Position the vehicle, prepare and set the crane and load for each lift.

Prepare an exclusion zone & setup roller for the relevant work.

Compact the straight runs. Several objects must be placed on one of the runs.

Compact the radius.

Park the ride-on-roller and carry out shut-down and securing procedures.

Enjoyed the course, it was insightful. Trainers were helpful, instructive and patient. There's a lot to take in but they go at a steady pace without overwhelming you with information. Equipment was in very good condition. Tester was vigilant but also understanding of the weather conditions that day. All the facilities you need are there, the footwear cleaning station was much needed too.
Definitely found the course challenging but enjoyable. Nick had plenty of tricks and experience to guide us in the right direction throughout the week, getting everyone involved. Great use of models and tools to make it more understandable and easier to digest. Facilities were spot on and everyone was friendly and welcoming. I would definitely recommend BAMCT.
