Course introduction

BAM Construction Training’s CPCS A21 Wheeled Loading Shovel training is designed to provide novice and intermediate operators with sufficient Wheeled Loading Shovel training which will enable them to competently and safely carry out the role as a Wheeled Loading Shovel Operator and pass the CPCS theory & practical assessments.

Eligibility Criteria

Before attending this course, candidates must pass the CITB Health and Safety Test for Operatives (OPS) within the past 2 years. We can accommodate this test at our centre for a fee of £60+VAT.

Course Learning Outcomes

  • Describe the nature of the sector of industry and their role and responsibilities as a plant operator.
  • Name & explain the purpose of principal components, controls & terminology.
  • Conform with manufacturer requirements and relevant regulations/legislation. Undertake all pre-use checks.
  • Operate the machine safely and efficiently.
  • Load material from stockpiles into a vehicle.
  • Maintain safe working situations.
  • Carry out shut down and securing procedures.

Activity Instructions

Complete all manufacturers' pre-start and running checks. Prepare the loading shovel for travel.

In a loaded and unloaded state: travel up and down the slope, stop and start on the slope, travel over rough terrain, and pass through a restriction.

In a loaded state, reverse in a straight line.

Prepare and set the loading shovel for the relevant work.

Using material from the bank, create an upward ramp.

Load material into a vehicle.

Park the loading shovel and carry out shut-down and securing procedures.
