BAM Construction Training’s CPCS A20 Hoist training course is designed to provide novice and intermediate operators with sufficient Hoist training which will enable them to competently and safely carry out the role as a Hoist Operator and pass the CPCS theory & practical assessments.

Eligibility Criteria

Before attending this course, candidates must pass the CITB Health and Safety Test for Operatives (OPS) within the past 2 years. We can accommodate this test at our centre for a fee of £60+VAT.

Course Learning Outcomes

  • Describe the nature of the sector of industry and their role and responsibilities as a plant operator.
  • Name & explain the purpose of principal components, controls & terminology.
  • Conform with manufacturer requirements and relevant regulations/legislation. Undertake all pre-use checks.
  • Operate the machine safely and efficiently.
  • Comply with signals and instructions.
  • Decide whether loads are safe to lift.
  • Maintain safe working situations.
  • Carry out shut down and securing procedures.

Activity Instructions

Complete all manufacturers’ pre-use static and visual checks with a supporting commentary. Complete full pre-use running checks.

Carry out the emergency lowering procedure.

Place the hoist into service.

Prepare and maintain an exclusion zone in the relevant area.

Check loads for integrity, security and suitability for loading and transportation.

Determine a loading method and sequence with the assistant.

Prepare each load for loading activities. Place the loads within the platform.

Travel the platform to a given level and remove the loads.

Place the loads within the platform and travel to a different level.

Travel the platform to an out-of-service level and remove the loads.

Place the hoist out-of-service and secure.
