Introduction
Telehandler Training Course – BAM Construction Training’s CPCS A17 Telehandler training course (4 day foundation) is designed to provide novice and intermediate operators with sufficient telehandler training which will enable them to competently and safely carry out the role of a telehandler operator and pass the CPCS telehandler theory/practical assessments.
We also offer a 2 day experienced worker course for candidates who do not require practical training. If you are considering this option we recommend reading the activity instructions further down this page.
Eligibility: Candidates must have a valid health, safety and environment test for operatives (OPS) within the past 2 years (also referred to as the CSCS touch screen test). We can accommodate this at our centre for a fee of £50 (inc vat).
Telehandler Training Course (CPCS A17) - Learning Outcomes
Through a combination of targeted telehandler training and experience, an individual with the telehandler will be able to:
Describe the nature of the sector of industry and their role and responsibilities as a plant operator.
Manoeuvre in confined spaces. Follow given signals. Configure & set for lifting, loading & transferring duties.
Name & explain the purpose of principal components, the basic construction, controls & terminology
Attach & remove attachments, including forks. Explain actions required for proximity hazards.
Conform with manufacturer requirements and relevant regulations/legislation. Undertake all pre-use checks
Lift & remove various loads up to full extension and working height. Transfer & place loads accurately.
Travel over level surfaces with & without loads, on rough, undulating ground and inclines.
Place and remove loads from a vehicle. Maintain safe working situations.
Activity Instructions
The following activity instructions relate to telehandler endorsements A to C:
Complete all manufacturer’ pre-start and running checks and prepare the excavator for travel
Lift load & place at ground level at an indicated point using full reach (horizontal) of the telehandler.
Travel up & down the slope, over rough terrain & pass through a chicane. Stop & restart on incline (loaded).
Lift load & reverse in a straight line for at least 20m, passing through a restriction at the end of the run.
Prepare and set the telehandler for each lift. Remove the forks and fit an attachment.
Carry out undercutting when lifting & placing a load. Configure the telehandler for road travel.
High lift & retrieve load. Lorry loading & unloading. Stack 3 loads vertically & destack.
Park the telehandler and carry out shut-down and securing procedures.
