New Training Centre to tackle UK construction skills gap

Chippenham (23rd October 2017) – MJ Church and BAM Construction Training have today announced the signing of a major strategic partnership to combat the UK construction skills gap with the opening of a new CPCS-accredited plant training and test centre.

MJ Church are one of the South West’s largest civil engineering contractors with a training centre at its head office near Chippenham, Wiltshire. Now, following the announcement, BAM Construction Training’s full suite of CPCS-accredited qualifications can be accessed by candidates wanting high quality training by fully qualified and experienced trainers. The new initiative follows a surge in demand for high-quality CPCS plant training across southern England.

Key features of the centre include fully-equipped classrooms for training and testing, welfare facilities and purpose-built practical training areas for every course, as well as an on-site café. With access to MJ Church’s fleet of equipment, BAM Construction Training can offer a wide range of plant categories and pass additional cost-savings on to their customers.

Wokingham-based BAM Construction Training has further demonstrated its commitment to UK construction with major investments in technology and digital marketing. The drive has significantly increased organic lead generation and boosted the efficiency of its sales process.

The new training centre will also support the next generation of plant operatives with the launch of a new apprenticeship scheme, further details of which are to be announced in due course.

Tom Church, Director of M J Church, comments: “With the government hoping to meet ambitious housing targets and major infrastructure projects coming forward, we anticipate a strong pipeline of work and a skilled workforce will be crucial to delivering these much-needed homes. MJ Church and its partners will continue to support the UK construction industry and its future workforce.”

Matt Durant, Managing Director of BAM Construction Training, comments: “This partnership will be a game-changer for southern construction. Our newly-opened second site enables us to significantly increase our capacity and extend our support for the next generation of skilled plant workers. We are delighted that MJ Church has recognised our commitment to address the UK construction skills gap with high-quality accredited training.”
