CPCS Announces Updates to 360 Telehandler
CPCS has announced that, after 28th August 2018, individuals who amend their card with the retired A17D Telehandler (including 360 slew) will be downgraded to A17C Telehandler (excluding 360 Slew).
To avoid losing this category, you must complete the A77 360 Telehandler Transitional Assessment.
A bulletin released by CPCS announced that:
“The CPCS Management Committee have agreed all current card holders with A17D who apply to make any amendments to their existing card, will have A17D downgraded and replaced with A17C with the same expiry dates.”
“Those who apply to make any amendments before 28 August 2018 will be issued with a Red Trainer Operator Card or a Temporary Blue Competent Operator Card for A17D, for 12 months. This will allow them sufficient time to achieve the transitional assessment.”
Card Amendments: Before 28th August 2018
If you hold A17D Telehandler (including 360 slew) and make amendments to your card before 28th August 2018, you’ll be issued a temporary Red Trained Operator or Blue Competent Operator Card.
Example: If you complete a CPCS A40 Slinger/Signaller course before 28th August 2018, your new card will no longer have A17D Telehandler (including 360 Slew). Instead, you will receive a separate temporary card which is valid for 12 months.
Card Amendments: After 28th August 2018
If you hold A17D Telehandler (including 360 slew) and make amendments to your card after 28th August 2018, your category will be downgraded to A17C Telehandler (excluding 360 Slew).
Example: If you complete a CPCS A40 Slinger/Signaller course after 28th August, your new card will be downgraded to A17C Telehandler (excluding 360 Slew) instead of A17D Telehandler (including 360 Slew).
To prevent your category from being downgraded, you will need to complete the CPCS A77 Telehandler 360 Slew Transitional Assessment. This will upgrade your category to A77 360 Telehandler.
CPCS A77 360 Telehandler: Transitional Assessment
We recommend that individuals who currently hold A17D Telehandler (including 360 Slew) complete the CPCS A77 360 Telehandler Transitional Assessment to ensure that you don’t lose the category.
This assessment consists of 2 theory questions, based on lifting capacity diagrams which are incorporated into the practical assessment, and four lifts with the winch attachment.
If you lose A17D Telehandler (including 360 Slew) you can regain the category by completing A77 360 Telehandler assessments. This involves 101 theory questions and a 3-hour practical assessment.
Conclusion
We understand that this update will affect the majority of 360 Telehandler Operators, particularly those who upgraded to A17D Telehandler (including 360 Slew) before the introduction of the new category.
Although CPCS plans to make cardholders aware of the scheme changes, we would advise you to contact CPCS before making any amendments to your card to ensure you don’t lose the category.
