Course introduction

BAM Construction Training’s CPCS A15 Forklift Side Loader training course is designed to provide novice and intermediate operators with sufficient Forklift Side Loader training which will enable them to competently and safely carry out the role as a Forklift Side Loader Operator and pass the CPCS theory & practical assessments.

Eligibility Criteria

Before attending this course, candidates must pass the CITB Health and Safety Test for Operatives (OPS) within the past 2 years. We can accommodate this test at our centre for a fee of £60+VAT.

Course Learning Outcomes

  • Describe the nature of the sector of industry and their role and responsibilities as a plant operator.
  • Name & explain the purpose of principal components, controls & terminology.
  • Conform with manufacturer requirements and relevant regulations/legislation. Undertake all pre-use checks.
  • Operate the machine safely and efficiently.
  • Decide whether loads are safe to lift.
  • Maintain safe working situations.
  • Carry out shut down and securing procedures.

Activity Instructions

Complete all manufacturers' pre-start and running checks. Prepare the forklift for travel.

In an unloaded state, pass through a chicane executing right and left turns in a forward and reverse direction.

With a wide load, reverse in a straight line and pass through a restriction.

Lift and place 3 same-sized loads on the stack. Then retrieve the load, lower to ground level and place at a given point.

Pick and place 3 same-sized loads close to a given object or structure. Stack remaining loads vertically on top of each other. On completion, de-stack all of the load and place alongside each other in a straight line.

Park the forklift and carry out shut-down and securing procedures.
